Pixius Communications • Executive leadership role
Connecting Marketing Sales and Customer Growth
An integrated marketing, sales, CRM, and customer-lifecycle system helped grow annual revenue from approximately $5 million to $11 million while improving conversion, retention, and customer value.
The challenge
Pixius had built a viable communications business but struggled to move beyond approximately $5 million in annual revenue. Customer losses and revenue pressure were increasing, the company had not completed a formal strategic-planning process in 15 years, and marketing and sales did not operate as an integrated commercial function.
Sustainable growth required more than additional promotion. The organization needed a shared strategy, a professional sales structure, clearer customer insight, stronger conversion discipline, and programs that increased the value and longevity of customer relationships.
The strategic insight
Acquisition, conversion, retention, and account growth are not separate departmental problems. They are connected stages of the same customer system.
The response therefore combined enterprise planning, marketing, sales leadership, CRM practices, product development, customer experience, and lifecycle management. The objective was to build an operating model that could create and capture demand while protecting recurring value.
What changed
- Led the organization through its first formal strategic-planning process in 15 years.
- Built the first integrated sales-and-marketing function and formal operating plans.
- Built and led a 17-person sales organization consisting of six outside and 11 inside sales professionals.
- Introduced structured selling, training, qualification, cross-sell, upgrade, and customer-relations programs.
- Increased monthly lead volume from approximately 70–80 to approximately 170 while improving the system used to convert those opportunities.
- Applied customer insight, CRM, product development, and lifecycle programs to acquisition, retention, and account expansion.
Measurable impact
- Annual revenue increased from approximately $5 million to $11 million.
- Lead-to-customer conversion improved from 4% to 18%.
- Average conversion time declined from approximately 30 days to five days.
- Monthly churn declined from 3% to 1%.
- The subscriber base grew approximately 45%.
- Average annual revenue per customer increased approximately 43%.
What this demonstrates
Revenue scales more reliably when marketing, sales, customer success, product decisions, and lifecycle programs are led as one commercial system. More leads alone would not have solved the problem. The organization also needed better qualification, faster movement, stronger customer relationships, and clear accountability across the revenue process.
For a growing company, fractional marketing leadership can provide the integration that is often missing between an ambitious business plan and the day-to-day behavior of the teams responsible for delivering it.
